XP Installation Instructions ==================================== The installation of I-O Wireless desktop and laptop cards are not available through I-O's advanced installation wizard. The following are general steps to install a a wireless card in an XP PC. Hint: To prevent I-O's advanced installation wizard from running when the utility CD is first inserted into the PC, hold down the left shift key while the CD drive is spinning up to speed. Desktop Installation ============================ 1. Prior to installing the wireless card, use Microsoft's System Restore feature to set a restoration point. 2. Power down the PC and disconnect the power cord. 3. Install the PCI with its PCMCIA card into the PC. 4. Power up the PC. 5. When the XP Add New Hardware wizard starts, follow the on screen instructions. 6. When prompted for the location of the drivers, point the wizard to the I-O Wireless Utility CD, then to the "XP Desktop Drivers Only" sub-directory. 7. Follow the remainder of the wizard's prompts. 8. Using Microsoft's standard network card configuration process, configure the wireless card's various configuration parameters. Go to Start | Control Panel | Network Connections. Right Click the wireless network card, and select Properties. 9. On the Local Area Connection Properties screen, click the Configure button. Select the Advanced Tab, then configure the wireless cards various communication parameters. 10. While in the Local Area Connection Properties screen, assign an IP address, sub-net mask and gateway. In the connection dialog box, scroll down to and highlight the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) entry, then select the Properties button. Set the IP Address, etc. 11. While in the in the Local Area Connection Properties screen, you might want to check the Show icon in notification area .... option which will allow you to monitor the wireless network card’s activity. Laptop Installation =========================== 1. On the I-O Wireless Utility CD, navigate to the "XP Laptop Utility and Drivers" directory. 2. Run the "Prism_forWindows" program. Follow the installation wizard’s prompts. 2. Insert the PCMCIA wireless card. 3. Follow the Add New Hardware wizard’s on-screen prompts. When asked to search for the driver, select the “automatic” option. 5. Click Start | All Programs, select the Intersil Prism configuration utility. Configure the various wireless setup parameters (such as the SSID, infrastructure or ad hoc network, etc.). 6. A wireless network icon in the system tray will change from red to green or yellow indicating that the wireless card is communicating properly.
